The True Online Community Essay -- Internet Blogs Experience Essays

The True Online CommunityWhat makes a true online community? There are many different types of online communities. There are those that focus on role playing and living a secret life, and on that point are others that are there to provide a place to vent emotions and to provide helpful information. I tried to join an online classroom that was similar to blackboard in some ways, plainly it turned out that I could only read articles and not respond to them. The web site was http//cyberdash.net/online1102/. The setup of the site consists of links to online articles, transmits written by students, and responses to some(prenominal) articles and posts. There are also several links to personal BLOGS or web logs, which are personal pages similar to a journal where you can post any sort of information you manage. One student, Drew Rosener created a BLOG for his ENC1102 class, which is a writing class at Florida State University, in one of his articles he says that this site is going to contain things that, you guess it, are interesting to me and uninteresting to you. This is one of the things that I found appealing about this site. He directly states that not everyones views are or will be the same, but in this community students have the chance to put their own opinion into writing. I calculate that this illustrates why online communities are beneficial. In real life communities it is often hard to express what you think because many fear ridicule. In an online community you can freely post your opinions without worrying about a face to face conflict. Because it is a class there are several policies that the students must abide by, just like any other class there is an attendance policy. You must spend a certain amount of time on the site to meet the att... ...f Topic, 6 Feb. 2003 http//cyberdash.net/online1102/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=90.MahiMahi, New Anti-Marijuana and SUV ads Going to far?, shoot Topic, 12 Jan. 2003 http //cyberdash.net/online1102/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=32.Mdunn09, Writing make Simple, Writing, 18 Feb. 2003 http//cyberdash.net/online1102/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=106.Pav02, Surprisingly, Proof-Reading is Helpful, Writing, 12 Feb. 2003 http//cyberdash.net/online1102/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=98.Jayjay, Tyson fight staged?, Off Topic, 23 Feb. 2003 http//cyberdash.net/online1102/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=116.Rheingold, Howard, The Virtual Community, The Wired Society, Orlando, Florida Harcourt Brace and Company, 1999.

Mother-daughter Relationships Essay -- Mother-Daughter Relationships

The relationship between parents and their children is one of the most basic human interactions. Mothers and daughters leave both physical and emotional care for their young sons and daughters. In the process, parents will instill children with family values and goals, while teaching them the accepted norms and values of society. This is done in hope that parents will one day con their own children become mature adults, with their own goals and purposes in life. Mother-daughter relationships can be complex, but also alter with compassion and love. Mothers and daughters often seem farther away from each other than they really are. Usually when a girl goes through adolescence, the relationship between her and her become begin to change in many different ways, but can grow at the same time. Even though the wars between a start out and daughter can ravage a relationship, they can easily be recognized earlier enough to keep a relationship from severing the ties that a mother and dau ghter suffer with one another. Adolescence... a time of seemingly more freedom, junior high to high school, football games, dances, parties, going out for pizza, dating, driving, a later curfew, going to the mall, and talking on the phone almost non stop. Many mothers rarely see their daughters during these times. With all the time she begins to spend with her friends, it seems as if the major issues evermore being discussed are bedtimes, clothing and chores. Girls are growing up and it may seem as if their mothers are being needed less, but they are needed, nevertheless in a different way. When I was beginning to enter adolescence, I wasnt wholly separated from my mother, but I could feel it was beginning to happen. My baby Erin, who is now 21 felt the same way. When I was younger, between 14-18 I separated form my mother and it almost felt similar I was completely separated from her. Even though girls may feel like they are farther away from their mothers that they could ever get, it is not the end of the world. Most girls are oddment to their mothers when they are young, and many return to that closeness as adults. But few girls manage to stay close to their mothers during junior high and high school. I have realized that before I entered into high school, my mother and I had a close relationship. I was the exception of most girls my age and many of them seemed jealou... ... from knowing that they see them. Every daughter and mother love each other but its when a daughter can say I really like my mother and when a mother feels the same way, that one knows the relationship has succeeded.Bibliographyhttp//www.ag.uiuc.edu/ purview/pdf_pubs/GATEWAY4.PDF. Beowulfs battle with the dragon serves as a critique of the notion that Beowulf is a hero. The Dragon partition displays many of Beowulfs heoric characteristics. Beowulf establishes himself as a hero by shake uping the dragon, exemplifing strength and courage when fighting the dragon, and sacrificing himself so that others female genitalia live. Beowulfs fight against the dragon shows Beowulf as a hero. Although Beowulf had previously defeated two other foes, he stands fast and fights his most formidable foe yet, the dragon. Dragons were notoriously difficult to kill, and the poem states that it was a great man, who could kill a dragon, eve n if it meant losing ones life. While others cower away Beowulf fights the dragon. Beowulf defeats the dragon but loses his life in the same instance. Like the classical hero Beowulf loses his special status in death. Beowulf sought no compensation for his services the mere satisfaction of helping others was pay enough. Like his two previous battles Beowulf fights for those who could not fight for themselves. While fighting the Dragon Beowulf shows feats of strength and courage that define him as a hero. The classical hero displays a special quality that separates him from the oddment of Moss 2society. In Beowulf, Beowulf shows extraordinary courage and strength that gives him special status. This notion is shown, when Beowulf fights Grendel and Grendels mother, but it is especially noticeable when he fights the dragon. When Beowulf fought Grendel others had the courage to attempt to fight him. The same is true with Grendels mother. When Beowulf goes to fight the Dragon, the other warriors cower away into the woods. Beowulf shows his courage by fighting the Dragon. Even when Beowulf is fighting the Dragon and realizes that his sword can do no damage he continues to fight. After Beowulf is on the verge of death he shows a combination of courage and strength by delivering the death blow to the Dragon, and not just laying down to die. Beowulfs strength is shown when he is able to actually do battle with the Dragon any prevalent man would have fallen to the dragon immediately.
